Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine dates back at least 5000 years and is a comprehensive medical system with its own theories, diagnostic methods and therapies. A quarter of the world's population relies upon it.

In Chinese Medicine any illness or symptom (physical or mental) is associated with blockage or imbalance in the person's Qi (energy) or the internal organs. Chinese medical theory differs from Western medical theory in the important respect that it treats the cause of the disease, not the symptoms, the whole body and not just the area causing a problem. The treatments concentrate on regulating the flow of Qi, correcting the imbalance of the internal organs, and boosting the immune system. Chinese medicine is therefore a truly holistic form of medicine.

Forms of Treatment:

1. Acupuncture
Acupuncture offers a natural way of dealing effectively with a wide range of health problems, and is free from harmful side-effects. It involves the incision of very fine sterilised needles into acupoints along meridians which form a network of pathways connecting the skin and the internal organs. The aim of acupuncture is to regulate the meridians of the body to unblock the stagnation of Qi (energy) and thus restoring balance and health. It is a painless and relaxing treatment which has been widely accepted by Western Medicine. There are alternetive techniques available if you have a fear of needles. These include:

  • Acupressure - a technique of applying pressure with the fingers to various points, rather than needles.
  • Electro-Acupuncture - applied with or without needles.

2. Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal medicine is a very intricate and complex form of treatment and is used widely in China. It is a safe treatment and in China it tends to be the preferred treatment for chronic conditions. Its aim is to regulate the internal organs and boost the immune system. It can also be used for the prevention of diseases and for health preservation. There are over 400 Chinese herbs in common use.

Chinese herbal medicine includes flowers, leaves, stalks, seeds and roots and is used to strengthen the internal organs. You will either be prescribed herbs which you must boil and drink daily, or a herbal powder, tablets or capsules. All of the herbs we use are premium quality, and contain no animal products.
